LOS ANGELES - A former producer of the ground-breaking hit reality show “Survivor” has been arrested by US authorities in connection with the death of his wife earlier this year in Mexico, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.

Bruce Beresord-Redman, who is also co-creator of the MTV show “Pimp My Ride”, was taken into custody Tuesday evening at his Rancho Palos Verdes mansion home.

The 38-year-old had been accused of killing his wife, Monica, when the couple went on a holiday to Mexico with their children in an attempt to smooth over marital troubles that had erupted when the husband was discovered to be having an affair.

Monica’s body was discovered in the hotel’s septic tank, three days after she was reported missing April 5. Hotel staff reported seeing the couple fighting, and guests reported hearing loud banging noises and a woman’s screams from their room on the night Monica is alleged to have been killed.

Beresford-Redman was ordered to stay in Mexico during the investigation, but returned illegally to the US. It could now take months or even years until he is extradited to Mexico to face trial.
