SALT LAKE CITY (GaeaTimes.com)- Utah earthquake which measured a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale is said to be the biggest Utah earthquake in many years now. Although the magnitude of earthquake wasn’t as heavy as the recent earthquake in China, it did manage to cause disturbances in the houses back in the city. Reportedly, all wall hangings toppled and crushed on the floor as reported by the Utah residents.
The Utah earthquake was first felt in Randolph which happens to be one of the closest towns to the Utah -Wyoming border. Utah University geologists commented on the Utah earthquake to be one of the biggest earthquakes witnessed by Utah after 12 years; the last Utah earthquake occurred in 1992. The geologists even said that the amplitude of the current Utah earthquake was ten times more than the 1992 Utah earthquake.
Relu Burlacu, who happens to be a Utah University seismologist told the media that the Utah earthquake which supposedly lasted for only 40 seconds caused minor damages. The sheriff’s office also reported on the same note as people kept calling the Sheriff’s office after the Utah earthquake but reported nothing serious. The last major Utah earthquake was reported at St.George way back in the year 1992 where the Richter scale displayed a magnitude reading of 5.9. Relu Burlacu was of the opinion that the Utah earthquake is nothing but a follow up to the seismic activity which is a pretty common phenomenon back in the Intermountain West line. Following the Utah earthquake, the Utah University seismologists have gone ahead to predict an upcoming earthquake to hit Wasatch Fault in a few days from now and have already issued a public warning to take all safety and precautionary measures.
