Storm toll mounts to 90 in Bihar

The death toll in the Tuesday night storm in Bihar has now touched 90 with thousands rendered roofless by the nature fury still awaiting relief and rehabilitation.

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has said the government was initiating every measures to rehabilitate the families rendered homeless by the storm.

Four eastern Bihar districts suffered the maximum casualties with 41 deaths each reported from Araria and Purnia, six from Katihar, and one each in Supaul and Kishenganj.

The storm has also caused extensive damage to standing crops and fruits like maize, wheat and banana.

“We are assessing the damage to send a detailed report report to the centre to get relief”, a senior state disaster managment official said today.
