BANGKOK - Eight people, including a journalist for Reuters, were killed in clashes between protesters and security forces in the Thai capital Saturday, Xinhua reported.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration said 521 people were injured in the clashes.

The situation seemed to be getting out of control as the red-shirt” protesters and security forces started to exchange fire and grenades at Khokwua intersection, 700 mertres away from the site of a major rally in Phan Fah Bridge, where at least 10 soldiers were injured, it said.

The injured were shifted to hospital.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva had declared a state of emergency in Bangkok and in the adjoining areas Wednesday to control the rioters.
