A state government in eastern india is formulating a Mobile Phone Tower Policy to check possible health hazards, a senior state official said today.
Officials said Bihar government is forming this policy in view of surveys and researches which said the mushrooming growth of mobile phone towers in the region was causing severe health problems.
Researchers have found the constant exposure to high frequency electromagnetic fields leads to infertility in males, miscarriage in women, brain tumour, irritability, low blood pressures, digestive disorders, fatigue, hyper tension, insomnia and others.
Doctors say the persons staying at a distance of 500 meters from mobile towers are three time more prone to dangers than those settled away.
“We are studying the laws concerned and our new policy to regulate the increasing growth of mobile towers will be ready within two months”, Bihar’s deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi said today.
He said from now on the government would realise taxes from the respective companies installing mobile towers in the region from the date of their installation.
An official report said there are over 400 million mobile phone customers and 300,000 towers in India. Bihar has around 2.8 million cell phone customers.
