Couple held for cheating over 100 job seekers

New Delhi, 31 March (IANS) A journalist and his air hostess wife were arrested here for cheating over 100 job seekers on the pretext of offering them employment in multinational companies, police said Wednesday.

Sumit alias Sameer Bhardwaj, 23, and Jahnavi alias Pooja Gupta, 21, cheated people on the pretext of providing them jobs as engineers, supervisors, managers and others. They were arrested from Munirka in south Delhi Tuesday.

According to police, Bhardwaj has worked with a news channel as crime reporter while his wife was an air hostesses withh a leading airlines.

“They used to collect data of job seekers from websites like naukri.com and they would send e-mails offering them jobs in MNCs. They would give an account number to the applicant to deposit money and would also mention a mobile number for contacting them, said a police officer.

“After receiving the money they would issue a fake joining letter to victim through e-mail. Immediately withdrawing the money from the account, the couple and his associates would switch off that particular mobile number and would target others with a different mobile number,” the officer added.
