SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA (GaeaTimes.com)- Following the reports that a navy ship of South Korea has sunk in the disputed border of the two countries, the general consensus about the matter has been that the incident had been caused by the Pyongyang, and that, in fact, North Korea had sunk the ship. The ship, a 1200 tonne Cheonan, carried about 104 sailors. A rescue party had been dispatched immediately after the ship sunk, but the officials had been able to locate only 58 of those on board, while the rest of the 46 are still missing. The President of South Korea has ordered an investigation, and has also asked the officials to be quick about it, considering that the incident is likely to have far reaching effects.
In fact, the news that North Korea sunk ship and that 46 sailors are still missing, has had a major effect on the prices of the shares in Wall Street, where prices dipped and the won dipped in value against the dollar. According to the reports of the government officials, it is most likely that the incident had not been brought about by a hostile attack. However, the government is looking into the matter thoroughly and is not taking any chances.
Despite the speculations that North Korea had sunk the navy ship of South Korea, it is being assumed by the South Korean government that the incident had merely been an accident. This claim is strengthened by the fact that prior to the incident, no activity was noticed among the North Korean troop. However, investigations are on, as are searches for the 46 missing soldiers.
