Police: Disabled teen steals bus, hits cars in Pa.
UPPER DARBY, Pa. — Police say a mentally disabled teenage boy stole a bus in suburban Philadelphia and hit several cars before crashing to a halt and being arrested.
Upper Darby police Superintendent Michael Chitwood says the 16-year-old spotted the empty bus in a transit depot Wednesday morning. Investigators say the boy jumped behind the wheel of the idling bus and took off, hitting more than a dozen parked cars.
The bus made it a few blocks before police tried to pull it over. It entered a parking lot and crashed into a row of cars before stopping.
Authorities say one occupied vehicle was hit but no one was injured.
Chitwood says the teen has significant mental disabilities and told officers he wanted to practice for a driving test.
