CHANDIGARH, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- In the series of earthquakes that seem to be striking the various parts of the world, the latest places to be struck were the Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, in India. Thankfully, however, the earthquake in Punjab and the Himachal Pradesh did not turn out to be as devastating as the ones that have been hitting various parts of the world, wreaking mass destruction and claiming innumerable lives, causing untold misery to people all over the world. The earthquake that had hit the northern states of the Indian subcontinent, thankfully, was not destructive by nature, and the tremors could not cause any significant damage to life or property.
According to the Meteorological Department of India, the earthquake in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh struck sometime around 12:23 in the afternoon on Sunday. The intensity was not so very great, and it measured only about 4.6 in the Richter Scale. The epicenter of the earthquake had fallen in the Latitude 31.65 degrees north and Longitude 76.1 degrees east. The meteorologist department also confirmed that the quake had been felt on the towns that lie in the borderline of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, namely, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Patiala and Amritsar.
Thankfully, however, no damage has been registered, at least not yet, thanks to the low intensity of the earthquake in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, which lasted no more than a few seconds, and the ground hardly shook. No deaths have been reported, nor has anybody been injured. There have also been no cases of damage incurred to property so far. However, general panic did ensue, as is understandable in the case of any earthquake.
