Ciudad Juarez (Mexico), March 3 (IANS/EFE) Mexican soldiers arrested five men accused of belonging to a kidnapping ring that targeted doctors in this northern border city, authorities said.

The suspects were captured after a member of another criminal organisation arrested a few days ago confessed that he worked with the gang on several kidnappings, the Chihuahua state attorney general’s office said.

The five suspects presented Monday were led by Ciudad Juarez physician Rene Romero Ruiesco, alias “El Doctor”, prosecutors said.

The kidnappers used four safe houses to hold their hostages.

The 28-year-old Romero, who recently graduated from medical school, mainly targeted doctors in Ciudad Juarez, which is located across the border from El Paso, Texas, and considered the most dangerous city in Mexico.
