BANGALORE, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Bangalore surfaced into news as an office tower fire killed 9 people and injured at least 50 on Tuesday. The tower has been sealed on Wednesday and charges are being brought against the owners of the building reportedly. The tower has been sealed for investigation which would try to find out the reason of the sudden outbreak and also see if the building lacked any safety device as revealed to a news source by the Bangalore Fire Brigade director D.B. Chengappa.
The news spread over Bangalore and India on Tuesday around 3PM when fire broke out in seven-storey Carlton Towers during office hours. The fire broke out at the third floor of the building, but people were unable to move to safety as the smoke engulfed whole of the building. This created a huge panic and many trapped inside jumped from the windows to save their life which led to casualties and deaths. Due to traffic jams, the fire brigade took some time to reach the tower. The fire officials said on Tuesday that they were able to douse the fire. However, it is allegedly being said that the fire brigade came up with insufficient tools. According to reports, their ladder reached only to the fourth floor while people were provided with ropes from the roof to come down. The net held over the ground also gave way when people jumped from above.
Bangalore is still in shock. According to reports, seven people are critically injured and being treated in the ICU. 15 others are in the medical ward and are being kept under observation. No further casualties have been reported. Others who got injured in the accident have been discharged from the hospital.
