DELAWARE, (GaeaTimes.com)- In the wake of the heavy snowfall that the state of Delaware has been witnessing for quite some time now,the state of emergency that was imposed on Wednesday has remained in effect today. The extensive snowfall accompanied with the strong winds has resulted in a number of major roads in Delaware being engulfed with snow and ice causing widespread inconvenience to the commuters.
The state of emergency was imposed on the entire state of Delaware by Governor Jack Markell, who ordered that the non essential vehicles should not ply on the roads. It was made public that only the essential personnel which would include police, rescue workers, emergency management crews and media members can ply on the roads but other residents are prohibited from driving until the state of emergence is withdrawn. At the same time, the unfavorable weather conditions have resulted in many areas in the state of Delaware facing power shortages. Although the power companies in the state are doing their best to restore power throughout Delaware, the icy rain and heavy snowfall that the state witnessed on Wednesday caused ice build up on the power lines. Moreover, since the strong winds are yet to subside, the maintenance crews are being unable to return to restoration work.
Meanwhile, since the state of emergency has not been withdrawn from the state of Delaware, the residents of the state have been asked to stay off the roads as those who fail to follow the directive would be fined up to $500 or could also face six months jail term. At the same time, the Delaware residents have been urged to monitor the conditions closely.
