NEW DELHI - Four people, including a student and a son of a police officer, were arrested from east Delhi for shooting and robbing a man earlier this month, police said.

Akshaya Kumar, 19, Parveen Kumar, 22, Sushil Kumar, 24, and Joginder, 33, were arrested Friday.

They were apprehended near Main Wazirabad Road in Gokulpur village after a tip-off. We have recovered a pistol, cartridges, bikes and four mobile phones from them, Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime and railways) Ashok Chand said.

The four told the police that they had shot and robbed a man Jan 10 at Loni flyover.

Kuldeep, the nephew of an electronics warehouse owner, was carrying Rs.6 lakh to deposit in a bank when his bike was waylaid by the four men.

Joginder, a delivery man in the same warehouse at Meet Nagar, knew that a huge amount of money is deposited in the bank every morning by Kuldeep, who also worked in the godown, Chand said.

Joginder, who was fired from his job three months back, planned the crime as revenge.

He contacted Sushil Kumar and Parveen and asked them for professional criminals to carry out the robbery. They contacted Akshaya, who got in touch with three other youths in Uttar Pradesh with criminal records - Vipul, Vicky and Sarvesh.

On January 10 at 8.30 a.m., Joginder watched Kuldeep’s movements and passed the information to Sushil. Vipul, Vicky and Sarvesh were on one motorcycle, Akshaya and Parveen were on another motorcycle and Sushil was on the third, said Chand.

When Kuldeep reached Loni flyover, the group blocked his way. When Kuldeep resisted, they opened fire, after which he jumped from the flyover to escape.

Vipul, Vicky and Sarvesh then went down, snatched the bag, and fled, added Chand.

Vipul, Vicky and Sarvesh are still absconding. Akshaya Kumar is a third year student at Pusa Polytechnic and Parveen, who works in a shop in Karol Bagh, is the son of a sub-inspector in Uttar Pradesh Police.
