NEW DELHI - Delhi Police Tuesday arrested a man for stealing mobile phones and purses of invitees at various marriage functions in south Delhi area.

Vikram operated around Lodhi Colony and organised a gang of children to assist him.

“He used to involve minors in his gang because he had learnt from Tihar Jail, where he was earlier imprisoned, that police normally do not arrest children in theft cases. Also, people too spare the kids if caught stealing,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H.G.S. Dhaliwal said.

Vikram always carried a knife with him in case he was caught by the invitees, Dhaliwal added. Five mobile phones were recovered from him.

The arrest came following a complaint by a Jodhpur resident, Rajiv Bhardwaj, who said he lost two mobile phones while attending a marriage function at Barat Ghar in Lodhi Colony Nov 27.
