THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - Kerala Police’s cyber wing is investigating theft of source code and intellectual property data from a Kochi-based IT company, an official said Tuesday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukumara Pillai told IANS the police sleuths have begun investigations following a complaint by Stephen Antony, chief executive director of Rabboni Convergence Technologies Research and Development Pvt. Ltd.

“We are dealing with the complaint and collecting details from the people whom we have summoned. We are investigating and it will take two weeks before we can say more about this,” he added.

In his complaint, Antony accused four people, including two of his employees, of the code and data theft.

Antony told IANS that in April this year, a man from Mumbai got in touch and asked him whether his company could develop an electronic data discovery software, needed for the legal industry in US, for a US-based IT firm.

“We started the work and produced the software as per the requirement and gave a demonstration to them. They were satisfied with it,” he said, adding the customer did not pay what they had promised despite several reminders.

“Soon with the help of internal security systems in my office I found out that two of my employees along with this man from Mumbai hatched a criminal conspiracy to steal the technical knowhow (source code, algorithms and the software architecture) and to produce and market these in the US,” said Antony.

The two employees of Stephen are being questioned.
