Maoists kill three CPI-M activists

KOLKATA - Three activists of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) were killed by suspected Maoists Sunday in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district, police said.

The dead body of 55-year-old Ganesh Aich, a CPI-M activist who was missing since Saturday night, was found near Binpur area in West Midnapore district.

“Ganesh (Aich) was missing since Saturday night. We believe he was killed by Maoists,” West Midnapore Superintendent of Police Manoj Verma told IANS over the telephone. The body had bullet injuries.

Pashupati Singh and Rahim Patar, both CPI-M activists, were killed Sunday afternoon by left wing rebels in the Salboni area of the district, said a police officer.

“Both of them were CPI-M activists. Their bodies have been recovered from the Salboni area,” said Zulfiqar Hasan, inspector general of police, western range.

Maoist guerrillas are active in the three western districts of West Bengal - West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura.
