Huge cache of pirated CDs, DVDs seized, 27 arrested

LUCKNOW - In one of the biggest hauls of blue films and pirated CDs and DVDs in the country, police here Saturday seized over one million such CDs and DVDs and arrested 27 people, an official said.

“Acting on a tip-off, we raided a hideout in the Arya Nagar area and made the seizure,” Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Brij Lal told reporters here.

“During the interrogation of the 27 people, who were arrested from the hideout, it has come to the fore that they worked for Babu Ghosi, who is absconding. Teams have been constituted to nab him,” he added.

According to police, besides the one million CDs and DVDs of blue films, 15 sacks full of CDs and DVDs of different movies were also recovered from the hideout.

Around five lakh wrappers of various movies, 128 CD copy writing machines, 40 computers and several DVD players were also seized during the raid, police added.

Sources in police said that those arrested used to supply pirated CDs and DVDs to their clients in various states of the country and Nepal.
