RAIPUR - Income Tax (IT) department sleuths carried out raids Thursday at different premises of Visa Steel in Chhattisgarh’s industrial town of Raigarh, officials said.

“The IT department officials have raided different establishments of Visa Steel,” Raigarh Superintendent of Police Rahul Sharma said. The raids were carried out at Visa Steel’s office in Friends Colony in the city and also at Devri project site, Sharma added.

The IT officials, however, refused to comment, stating that the raids were underway and it was difficult for them to make any statement on the issue.

The action is reported to be the part of raids conducted by the IT officials Thursday on different establishments of Visa Steel in other states, including West Bengal and Orissa.

The Kolkata-based steel manufacturer is setting up a 2.5 million tonne per annum integrated steel plant near Devri village in Raigarh district, about 220 km from here. It is also coming up with a 1,200-MW thermal power project in Janjgir-Champa district of the state.
