RANCHI - Former secretary and examination controller of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) was arrested by the state vigilance bureau in connection with the JPSC job scam, an official said Wednesday.

Alis Usha Rani Singh was arrested from Hazaribagh district Tuesday night. She was absconding since the last few months.

According to vigilance sources, Usha Rani owns five dogs of foreign breed, each costing Rs.1 lakh to Rs.6 lakh. She spends nearly Rs.1.75 lakh every month on their maintenance and food.

Through the JPSC exam, a total of 172 administrative officers were appointed in 2007-08. A vigilance probe into alleged irregularities in the appointments was ordered last year.

The vigilance department, in its preliminary report early this year, said that 38 candidates who appeared in the exam were appointed illegally. All the 38 officials have been sacked by the government.
