Abu Dhabi, Nov 7 (IANS/WAM) Improved traffic managament in Abu Dhabi has seen fatal road accidents dropping by 17 percent in the first nine months of this year and there are plans to reduce this further, police said Sunday.

The toll in the first nine months of this year was 276 compared to 331 in the same period last year.

Colonel Hussein Ahmed Al Harethi, director of the Department of Traffic and Patrols, said the figures showed a major improvement in the traffic safety strategy.

He told reporters that his department would adjust speed limits on the emirate’s roads by the end of the year.

He said the goal is to reduce traffic accident deaths by 30 percent by 2022. The strategy is to cut rates of serious injuries and fatalities to four percent per 100,000 people annually, he added.
