Italian held in Himachal for illegal stay

SHIMLA - An Italian, arrested in Himachal Pradeshs Kullu district for staying illegally in the country, was Wednesday sent to police custody for a day, an official said.

The travel documents of Galeno Orazi, 65, expired in June last year and since then he had been staying here illegally, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Dular told IANS.

He was arrested Tuesday. He was staying in a tented accommodation in the interiors of Kullu near Malana village, Dular said on telephone.

Orazi was convicted twice by a Kullu court in 1981 - first, for possessing drugs and second, for staying illegally. He also underwent a jail term of 15 days, he added.

“We are investigating his role, if any, in drug trafficking,” he added.
