Delhi Police mark Commemoration Day parade

NEW DELHI - Delhi Police Thursday held the Commemoration Day parade, observed annually across the country in memory of police and paramilitary personnel killed in action.
“A total of 797 police personnel laid their lives for their country between Sep 1, 2009 and Aug 31, 2010,” Neeraj Kumar, special commissioner (administration), said.
Uttar Pradesh saw the highest number of deaths at 99, followed by Punjab (57), West Bengal (48), Jharkhand (47), Jammu and Kashmir (49) and Delhi (9).
The function, held at the New Police Lines Ground in Kingsway Camp, was attended by several serving and retired officers.
Commemoration Day is observed every year in memory of 10 Central Reserve Police Force personnel who died fighting Chinese forces in Ladakh region Oct 21, 1959.
