GHAZIABAD - At least six people were injured in an explosion Wednesday evening in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district, a senior official said. Police have ruled out a terror link in the incident.

The explosion took place in a busy area in Babrala town under the Shahpur police station in Muzaffarnagar, some 100-km from New Delhi.

“The blast took place in a box that contained a battery-like object,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pravin Kumar told IANS.

Muzaffarnagar District Magistrate Santosh Yadav said it was suspected that the material that caused the explosion was kept on a cycle. It exploded around 7 p.m.

He said another suspected bomb appeared to be present on another cycle in the vicinity of the explosion site. A bomb disposal squad had been called in from Meerut to inspect the site.

“As of now, we cannot tell the nature of explosive, but it can be confirmed that the incident has nothing to do with any terror outfit,” SSP Kumar said.
