SHIMLA - A scientist of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), who was on a holiday in Himachal Pradesh, was killed when he slipped and fell into a gorge in Kinnaur district, police said Wednesday.

Scientist Cyriac I.C., who hailed from Kerala, died after falling into a gorge near Bhawanagar in Kinnaur in the early hours of Wednesday, Deputy Superintendent of Police Pankaj Sharma told IANS.

He said Cyriac, 50, was travelling in a private car and was on the way to Rekong Peo, the headquarters of Kinnaur, from Shimla when the freak accident occurred.

“As the car reached near Bhawanagar, he asked the driver to stop and came out of it at around 12.30 a.m. Wednesday. As he stepped out of the vehicle, he didn’t notice the gorge due to the darkness and fell into it,” the officer said.

The scientist’s body was recovered from the gorge in the morning and sent to his native place, he added.

The police has ruled out foul play.
