LUCKNOW - Two men have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district on charges of circulating counterfeit currency notes printed in Pakistan, police said Tuesday.

The two men, in their early 40s, were nabbed late Monday with fake currency notes of Rs.55,000 from Sukhdevpur area, about 250 km from here.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that the fake currency notes were supplied to the two men from Nepal,” police inspector D.P. Singh told reporters.

“The two worked for a Nepal-based racket and were entrusted with the task of supplying fake currency notes in parts of Uttar Pradesh, particularly the eastern region,” he said.

According to police, the men have been involved in the illegal trade for the past six years and have confessed to the crime.
