BHUBANESWAR - Three men, who were among the seven caught allegedly attempting to commit a theft in a house, were beaten to death in Orissa’s Mayurbhanj district early Monday, police said.

The residents of the Gunjasahi village, about 270 km from here, thrashed the seven men and left them in a nearby forest.

“After being informed of the incident, police rushed to the spot and took all the seven persons to a nearby hospital where three of them were declared dead,” police officer Narayan Nayak told IANS.

Four men have sustained critical injuries, and are undergoing treatment in the district hospital, he said.

The locals alleged that the seven men committed a theft in a nearby area and were later caught attempting another theft in a house, another police official said, adding that the investigation has been launched.
