ISLAMABAD - A deal to set up a golf course in Pakistan’s Lahore city has caused a loss of Rs.4.82 billion to the exchequer, says a report issued by the National Assembly.
The report on the allotment of Pakistan Railways land for the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club showed there were a number of financial and administrative irregularities, Dawn newspaper reported Monday.
It said the land measuring 141 acres was given away at a nominal price, causing a loss of Rs.4.82 billion to the government.
Committee chairman Nadeem Afzal Gondal said the deal was highly suspicious and the entire records of the bidding were missing.
We strongly feel the contract was secured through deceit and fraud in active connivance of the then high ups of Pakistan Railways, he said.
