NATO soldier killed in Afghanistan bomb blast
KABUL, Afghanistan — NATO says one of its service members was killed by an improvised explosive device in southern Afghanistan.
An alliance statement says the bomb attack occurred Monday. NATO did not provide further details.
It is the eighth coalition death since the beginning of the month, according to an Associated Press count.
It has been the deadliest year for international troops in the nine-year conflict. The toll has shaken the commitment of many NATO countries with rising calls to start drawing down troops quickly.
A U.S. troop surge in southern Afghanistan has been accompanied by rising military casualties and civilian deaths.
NATO said Sunday two service members were killed in weekend attacks.
