KOLKATA - Three policemen, including a sub-inspector, were injured after they tried to prevent villagers from fighting in West Bengal’s Malda district Tuesday, police said.

“People of two villages in Kaliachawk area near the Indo-Bangladesh border were fighting with each other. When the police tried to bring the situation under control, the villagers pelted stones and bricks at them,” Bhuban Mondal, police superintendent of Malda district, told IANS over phone.

The three injured policemen - a sub-inspector, a constable and a staff of the National Volunteer Force (NVF) - were rushed to the hospital.
