NEW DELHI - After flowing above the danger level for exactly a week now, the water level of the Yamuna river will drop below the danger mark by Sunday evening, an official said.

The Yamuna ebbed to 205.08 metres Sunday, just 0.25 metres above the danger level and the situation is absolutely under control, said an official of the department of irrigation and flood control.

“We are getting just around 40,000 cusecs of water every hour from Haryana, which is normal. We are expecting the river to start flowing under the danger mark by 7 p.m. today (Sunday),” the official said.

Meanwhile, the water level had touched 207.08 metres Wednesday night, 2.25 metres above the danger mark.

As the Yamuna crossed the 207 metre mark Wednesday, many drains and sewage lines near residential colonies like GTB Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar, areas near Delhi University’s North Campus and Kashmere Gate Inter-State Bus Terminus were clogged with nearly two feet water.

Breaking a 32-year record, Haryana released a maximum discharge of 744,507 cusecs water from the Hathinikund barrage Monday, creating panic of floods in Delhi.
