DHAKA - At least 50 people, including 16 policemen, were injured when students of a private university clashed with the police in Dhaka Saturday.
Over a hundred students of the World University of Bangladesh formed a human chain on Dhaka’s Mirpur road at around 9.00 a.m. protesting the death of a fellow student, Mostafizur Rahman, 23, who was hit by a van there, Xinhua reported citing private news agency UNB.
The students tried to block the road, pelted stones at police personnel and even damaged vehicles, which forced police to charge at them with batons.
The officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi police station, Shah Alam, said 16 policemen were injured in the clash that lasted nearly an hour, while police picked up an equal number of students in connection with the incident.
