Yamuna floods ghats in Mathura

VRINDAVAN - The swollen Yamuna has submerged several ghats along its banks here in Vrindavan.

Cheer ghat, Brambhri ghat, Govind ghat and, for the first time, Kalidah ghat are in a sea of water, flowing right upto the Madan Mohan temple. The famous Kesri ghat was already under water.

Thanks to the extension of the canal system and the barrages upstream, the flood fury is largely controlled and the river flow regulated.

“Without these there would have been utter chaos and a huge tragedy surpassing what happened in 1978,” said an official.
