CBI seeks prosecution of 16 officials in Jharkhand bitumen scam

RANCHI - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sought the Jharkhand government’s approval to prosecute 16 officials of the road and construction department in the Rs.120 crore bitumen scam, officials said Thursday.
According to CBI sources, the 16 officials include the engineers who floated tenders and monitored road construction work.
“The CBI Thursday submitted status report of bitumen scam in Jharkhand High Court. The CBI apprised the court about progress of the probe and prosecution approval sought against officials of road and construction department,” said Rajiv Kumar, lawyer fighting the public interest lawsuit on which a CBI probe was ordered last year.
The status report was submitted to a division bench of Justice Sushil Harkoli and Justice D.N. Patel.
The money swindled in bitumen scam is more than Rs.120 crore, sources in the government said.
