LUCKNOW - Apparently depressed over losing his job, a man poisoned his wife and two minor daughters and committed suicide in Uttar Pradesh’s Faizabad district Tuesday, police said.
Radhey Shyam, 32, poisoned his wife Urmila Devi and two daughters - eight-year-old Richa and four-year-old Shikha - at his home and later hanged himself to death.
“Investigations reveal that poor financial conditions drove Radhey Shyam to take the extreme step and kill his wife and two daughters,” police inspector Akhilesh Chandra Pandey told reporters in Faizabad, some 150 km from Lucknow.
“We learnt that Radhey Shyam lost his salesman’s job a few days ago. He used to tell neighbours that he would commit suicide and kill his family if his financial condition did not improve,” he added.
Radhey Shyam’s neighbours, who went to meet him, found him hanging by rope and his family members lying unconscious.
“By the time we reached the spot, all four had died,” said Pandey.
