LUCKNOW - Four people, including two teenagers, have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district for kidnapping a four-year-old boy from this state capital, police said Monday.
The four, including a 15-year-old boy, the mastermind behind the kidnap, were held from the Gauriganj town in Sultanpur, along with his three accomplices — a 13-year-old boy and two youths, aged around 20 years.
Gauriganj is around 150 km from here.
“We arrested them from a hideout and also rescued the four-year-old boy Gopal, who was kidnapped Sep 15 from outside his house in Indira Nagar locality,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Roshan Lal told reporters here.
“After Gopal went missing, on behalf of his father we gave an advertisement in a newspaper that anyone giving information about the child will be rewarded,” said Lal.
“The mobile number on which the information was sought was of a police officer. It was on Sep 19 that the 15-year-old boy called on the mobile phone demanding a ransom of Rs.20 lakh. Later, investigations by our surveillance unit revealed that the call was made from Sultanpur,” he added.
The 15-year-old boy works in a shop in Lucknow and is a native of Sultanpur, police said.
“We are gathering more information,” said Lal.
