Herriman Fire Causes Havoc

HERRIMAN (GaeaTimes.com)- The destructive Herriman fire which broke out last afternoon is still keeping the authorities on tenterhooks. The Utah Mayor Josh Mills has already declared a State Of Emergency for the massive destruction by the fire. The residents of the place are asked not to use their cell phone in order to keep the phone-lines open for communication during emergency.

The Herriman fire resulted from a machine gun firing by a guardsman, who was practicing at that time. The blaze is reportedly is really powerful and the fire crew are having a tough time to douse the fire. A reputed media site reported that more than 1,200 homes have been evacuated to ensure complete safety of the residents. The firefighters reported that the fire has burned more than 300 acres of land and two homes. However, no injuries have been reported yet. Captain Brad Taylor of the Unified County Authority said that the fire began around yesterday noon at a firing range at camp Williams about 30 miles outside Salt Lake City. The Herriman spokesman said in his statement that more than 100 firefighters made an effort to stop the fire from spreading.

Lt. Don Hutson of the Unified Police Department said that the whole mountainside was on fire and the flames have affected many part of the mountain while coming down the “backyards” of the city. Don Hutson also added that the fire was vast moving and it was reported that around 124 National Guardsman have been called to battle the ongoing fire. Utah Governor Gary Herbert said in his statement that it was not “windy” when the fire started but gradually as the wind “kicked up”, the Herriman fire spread and caused problems among the residents.
