Report: 8 killed in train collision in India
NEW DELHI — An Indian news agency says a freight train has slammed into a stationary passenger train at a rail station in central India and killed at least eight people.
The Press Trust of India news agency says the accident occurred early Monday amid heavy rain and poor visibility at the Bhaderwah rail station, 235 miles (375 kilometers) south of the capital New Delhi.
Accidents are relatively common on India’s sprawling rail network, which is one of the world’s largest but lacks modern signaling and communication systems. Most crashes are blamed on poor maintenance and human error.
