Samajwadi Party legislator booked for rape

LUCKNOW - A Samajwadi Party legislator in Uttar Pradesh was Friday booked for rape, police said.
The case was filed Friday against Anoop Sanda, who represents the Sadar assembly seat of Sultanpur, on a complaint registered by Samreen Khan, of Gabhdia area in the district.
“A case against multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 376 (rape), 506 (threatening to kill), 420 (fraud), has been registered against the legislator,” Superintendent of Police (City) Ajay Shankar Rai told IANS on the telephone from Sultanpur, some 150 km from Lucknow.
According to police, Khan alleged that Sanda sexually assaulted her for around three years. He even promised to marry her but did not keep his word. Later, the he started threatening Khan with dire consequences, directing her not to tell anyone about their illicit relationship, police said.
“We have initiated an enquiry into the case and will act accordingly,” Rai said.
