HELSINKI - Finnish police are investigating a suspected robbery of coins worth thousands of euros from the Mint of Finland.

The missing money was in the form of one and two euro coins, police said.

It was, however, not immediately clear what was the total amount of money stolen.

The stealing began in the spring of 2009 and lasted till last week.

Police have detained several people, including the production chief of the mint, in this connection, Xinhua reported.

The Mint of Finland, a state-owned company, mints ordinary coins as well as commemorative coins and medals.
