NEW DELHI - The Delhi High Court Thursday granted protection to a couple who married against the wishes of their parents.

Justice Ajit Bharihoke asked the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Sunlight Colony Police station in south Delhi to provide necessary protection to the couple.

Satendra Singh (31) and Tavleen (18) married Aug 21 at Arya Samaj Vivah Mandir Trust in Delhi despite their parents’ opposition, their application filed in court said.

Tavleen left her home Aug 14 after which her father registered a case of kidnapping against Satendra.

The couple immediately after the marriage sent an application seeking protection to Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal and the SHO. But despite that the police did not grant them protection against the girl’s family, their application said.

The father of Tavleen approached the Delhi High court alleging that his daughter was a minor and Satendra forcibly married her after kidnapping her.

However, Tavleen recorded before the court that she was 19-year-old and married Satendra of her own will.
