MUMBAI - The operator of a giant wheel has been arrested for negligence after a girl’s hair got entangled during a ride at Eid celebrations here, police said Wednesday.
“We arrested 33-year-old Pappukumar Gaur, the operator of the giant wheel, late last (Tuesday) night for negligence,” Senior Police Inspector R.N. Mali told IANS.
In the freak accident, 11-year-old Muskan’s hair got entangled in the giant wheel around midnight Monday, injuring and traumatising her.
“Her hair were caught so badly that no one could disentangle them. Finally, we had to call the fire brigade personnel who cut the rod of the wheel to rescue the girl,” Mali said.
“Some skin of her scalp had to be peeled off to free her. The girl is now recuperating at a hospital and is out of danger,” he added.
Muskan, a resident of Tulsiwadi in Tardeo, had gone to Girgaum Chowpatty with her elder brother to celebrate Eid.
Gaur fled after realising that Muskan’s hair were badly entangled in the giant wheel.
“Muskan’s brother had tried hard to free her and then ran to his house close by to fetch his family members who also tried to free her along with the policemen deployed in the area,” Mali said.
Afzal Khan, president of NGO Adarsh Samajsevak Sangh, also came to the rescue by facilitating the police procedure and helping in taking Muskan to the hospital.
In yet another freak accident that took place during Eid celebrations, two-year-old Ahmed Faiz lost his life when while playing he crashed into a big utensil in which daal gosht was being cooked.
The accident that took place Sunday left Faiz scalded all over his body. He was taken to a nearby hospital immediately, but succumbed to burns late Monday night.
