Mob attack injures 10 policemen

LUCKNOW - About 10 policemen in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district were Tuesday injured during a mob attack after a speeding truck crushed a school student, an official said.

Sushil Kumar, 17, of Satya Narain Inter College, was run over in Chapad village. Furious locals and students stoned policemen and torched a dozen vehicles outside the police station.

The truck driver escaped. The protesters, who wanted him arrested, tried to set fire to the police station, Deputy Inspector General of Police B.P. Tripathi told IANS on telephone from Banda, some 200 km from Lucknow.
