Over 100 people trafficked into Finland

HELSINKI - Over 100 Afghan and Iraqi people have been trafficked into Finland in the past two years, Finnish police have said.

Police said this was the largest operation of its kind to be discovered in Finland. The suspected crimes took place in 2008 and 2009 and may involve an international criminal organisation, Xinhua reported.

A joint force of the Helsinki police and the Border Guard completed a preliminary investigation and found that the trafficked people were brought into Finland through Russia, Latvia and Lithuania at a cost of about 8,000 euros per person.

Authorities believe the organisation may have its base in Moscow.
