2 drown, 8 missing as boat capsizes in Narmada

JALGAON - Two people drowned and eight others of a family were missing after their boat capsized in the Narmada river on the Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh border here Monday afternoon, police said.

The family members had gone to the Omkareshwar temple in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh when their boat overturned, said Khandwa police control chief Biharilal Mandloi.

The dead were identified as 26-year-old Laxman Patil and one-year old Samruddhi Patil.

“Five people have been rescued while search is on to trace out eight others,” Mandloi said.

The missing people are Manisha Ashok Patil (30), Priyanka Sachin Patil (22), Bhushan Digambar Patil (26), Dipali Bhushan Patil (23), Rekha Pandit Patil (38), Akshaya Sandeep Patil (4), Aravel Ashok Patil (4) and one-year old Nisha.
