LUCKNOW - An official of the Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) was killed while three others suffered burn injuries when a fire broke out in a GAIL plant in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district Saturday, police said.
The fire broke out in GAIL’s Pata Petrochemical Plant in Diviapur area, some 200 km from Lucknow.
“While an official with the GAIL was killed, three other GAIL personnel received burn injuries. Though none of them is serious, the three are being treated at a hospital,” Superintendent of Police S.C. Dubey told IANS over telephone. He declined to give further details about the incident.
Even as the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, police believe it took place following a gas leakage.
Police and fire-fighting officials have initiated a joint enquiry to establish the exact reason behind the incident.
