Woman, three children die in wall collapse

LUCKNOW - A 34-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh and her three children were killed as a wall in their house collapsed on them Friday, police said. A fourth child received critical injuries.

The incident took place in Karaundi village of Barabanki district, some 35 km from Lucknow.

“The woman was sleeping with her four children, two sons and two daughters aged 8-12 years, at the time of the accident. While the woman and three children died on the spot, another boy suffered serious injuries. He is being treated at a hospital,” Superintendent of Police Navnit Rana told reporters.

“The accident could have taken place owing to use of substandard construction material. An enquiry is being conducted and the reason behind the accident would be established soon,” said another police officer.
