LUDHIANA - A warden of Ludhiana’s central jail, suspended last week after a prisoner escaped from his custody, Tuesday committed suicide at his house here.

The police found a suicide note from the room of Kashmiri Lal in which he is said to have accused senior prison officers of harassing him.

Lal and two other officials were suspended Sep 1 after prisoner Joga Singh, in prison since May over car theft and other cases, escaped from their custody after being taken to Chandigarh for medical treatment.

The prison officials had claimed that the prisoner escaped from their custody from Samrala town, 45 km from here, but senior officials said that the escape took place in Chandigarh.
