MOHALI - Punjab Police Tuesday claimed to have busted a female masseur racket in this district with the arrest of a man and woman, who have been accused of blackmailing and duping people of lakhs of rupees over the last two months.

Gurmeet Singh and Ruby were arrested from Phase I of Mohali town, around 10 km from here. The other two accused, Faqir Chand and Vanita alias Tanya, the kingpin of the gang, are still at large.

Faqir Chand reportedly works in the wireless section of the Punjab Police in Patiala, about 60 km from here.

“They used to give advertisements in newspapers and offer female masseurs at the customers’ place. Then other accused, who posed as a policeman, used to catch the client with the masseur in a compromising position. They used to later blackmail him,” Mohali Superintendent of Police (detective) Varinder Singh told IANS.

“We were on their lookout for the last few weeks. They have duped at least six people of lakhs of rupees during the last couple of months. However, none of the victims has lodged a police complaint,” Singh said.

Police are raiding various places to nab Chand and Vanita.

Another police officer said Vanita used to give advertisements in newspapers and finalise deals with the clients over phone.
