RANCHI - Suspected Maoists beat a fair price shop dealer to death in Jharkhand’s Latehar district Tuesday, police said.

Mukesh Prasad was killed in Turudih village of Latehar, about 140 km from here.

The villagers alleged that he was selling the fair price shop foodgrain in open market and not providing wheat and rice to villagers at government-prescribed low rates, a police officer said.

To gain the sympathy of villagers, suspected Maoists picked up Mukesh from his house and beat him. The villagers also joined them and lynched him, the police officer said.
