Himachal tribals donate funds for Leh victims

SHIMLA - Tribals of Himachal Pradesh have collected over Rs.3 lakh to rehabilitate people affected by the flashfloods in Leh in Jammu and Kashmir, an official said here Sunday.

Residents of the Spiti Valley in Lahaul and Spiti district expressed solidarity with the people of Ladakh region and contributed Rs.331,210 for their rehabilitation, a government spokesperson told IANS.

At least 180 people were killed in the Aug 6 flashfloods and mudslides in Leh.

The state government last week decided to donate Rs.1.01 crore out of the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the flashfloods victims.

The council of ministers also decided to donate Rs.11,000 each for helping the victims.

Like the Ladakh region, the residents in the Spiti Valley also believe in Buddhism. The climatic conditions of both the areas are harsh as much of the land falls under a cold desert.
